Almost Fantasy Fest
I can't believe it is the end of October and Fantasy Fest is upon us. I am certainly thankful we did not build a float this year. We did one a few years ago, and, although, it was an absolute blast to be a part of the parade, it was a LOT of work and expense. And when it rained the entire day of the parade, we were all a bit stressed, even though it cleared before the parade. However, our igloo for March of the Disoriented Penguins" was a bit bedraggled. Anyway this year it will be fun to just sit back and people watch.
Fall has been rather quiet, which is always kind of nice for the locals. But Don's Place did manage to host a couple of events. Our second annual Oktoberfest is great fun. It is a fundraiser for the middle school where I teach. This year Don donated the $1,000 profit to our Positive Behavior Support System which recognizes and awards students who Do the Right Thing on a daily basis. It was especiialy cool this year when Eric Patterson's parents showed up. He was one of our big PBS winners last year as an eighth grader. He has now moved on to KWHS, but we miss Eric and students like him. He was an incredible kid who was brand new in Key West last year but managed to become one of the most popular kids at HOB, mainly because he was such a wonderful kid and pretty funny too. We were honored to have Eric's parents with us at Oktoberfest. And a perfect note to the evening---they were the winners of our first door prize. Hopefully next year we will continue with a third Oktoberfest. And congratulations to Jimmy the Painter for winning $430.00 in the 50/50 raffle.
Don and I were also surprised in early October with an old friend and co-worker from Wabash, Indiana, Curt Berry and his girlfriend. I worked with Curt when he was a high school student and I was a newlywed. I hadn't seen him in about 30 years. It's funny how easy it is to pick up with old friends. We had a blast. Don taught Curt's girlfriend how to play Ship, Captain, Crew and I think she came out a winner.
Nancy and Mike are enjoying having Jamie home for her birthday celebration. Aunt Jamie got to meet newphew Leo for the first time and she was smitten. Who wouldn't be???? He is adorable. Dave and Alysia are truly blest. Well Happy Fantasy Fest everyone. Don and I will be in Indiana trick or treating with Bronson. Don is Darth Vadar this year and Bronson is Luke SKywalker. STay tuned for pictures. Thanks Randy and Kellie for house sitting and keeping Wilson in line while we are gone.
Coming up.- Nancy's now famous and annual African Bead Party in December- STay tuned for details.
