Kentrucky Derby
This week was bittersweet. While we had a blast celebrating the Kentrucky Derby, we also had to say good bye to two of our best canine customers, Button and Izzy. First with the Derby. Nancy and her faithful sidekick Julie again organized a dynamite party from Dion's chicken to all the yummy side dishes, the decorations, and of course the "hat contest". Winners:
Best male hat - Rob Axe (although it would have been prettier on Bebe)
Best below the head "hat" - Norma Fowler (just recovering from a horrific scooter accident complete with neck brace)
Best couples hate - Mikey and Marrissa (after all they got married at Churchill Downs)
Best tourist hat - young couple from Philly
Best "rose" hat - Erika (from the Citizen)
Grand Prize - Julie Nevius - a beautiful black and grey accessorized ensemble with red accents)
It was great fun and we congratulate all the winners.
Thank goodness summer temperatures are slowly coming back. Even this sweater and jacket lover, welcomes the war weather. Spend a hot day lounging at the beach or pool and then stop by Don's for a delicious cool beverage made by one of our expert staff members.
And now a sad note. Santa Dave's beloved Izzy and Steve's Buttons both died within a week of each other. Both dogs were regualrs at Don's for several years. Button was even around from Day 1 when we gutted the place and started the remodeling process in 1998. Izzy stood faithfully by Dave every Sunday in the Fall during football while Dave manned the grill. We will miss both dogs who are in the current 2010 "Dogs of Don's Place" calendar. Hopefully they are barking good thoughts down on us.
