The Good Old Days

The Good Old Days

Great rib cookoff for football playoffs today.  Rob Axe, Bebe, Nancy, Jules, Karen,  and Santa (Dave) really pulled out all the stops today with great food.  I didn't do much since we have old college friends here visiting.  We have seen Jeff and Debbie Stockwell from Millbury, Mass. a couple of times in the last few years, but we haven't seen Pat and Don Henrickson (Swede) from Galesburg, Illinois in 35  years.  We are having a blast reminiscing about "the good old days".  Poor Debbie didn't go to school with us, so she has to suffer through our stories, but she is a great sport and laughs along with us.  Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri was a great place to  go to college  in the 1970's.  Our stories about drinking beer on Friday afternoons along the Mississippi River banks and playing pinochle in the student lounge, football games (the guys all played on the CSC football team) and boy do they have stories.

Being a HOOSIER, I'm glad the Colts won and as I am writing this, the Saints just won an amazing game against the Vikings in overtime.    Jules and Jim will be happy about that one.  They are planning to move to their comdo in New Orleans this summer.  We will miss them so much.  We have become great friends since they found Dons' Place one Sunday afternoon to watch football.  Jim is stationed her in the Navy (I think)  and Jules works for the Westin.  They are great people.  Jim and I found out that we grew up about 30 miles from each other-- he is from Huntington, Indiana and I am from Wabash, Indiana.  Jules and Jim just adopted a new little kitten which Jules found outside her office door a few weeks ago at the Westin.  It couldn't have been more than a week old when she found it.  They named it Coco.  Julie is one of the best cooks I know.  She makes some amazing dishes for Sunday football.   The only good thing about their moving is that we will have a great place to visit and hopefully, they will find their way back to visit us in Key West.

Speaking of new pets, I have a new English Bulldog puppy that my daughters helped me talk Don into over their Christmas visit.  I named him Wilson ( my maiden name) and he is amazing.  I took him to the dog park today and he was in heaven.  Life is good.

Next Saturday is one of my favorite weekends in Key West--the art fair on Whitehead Street.  The girls and I usually meet on Saturday for breakfast and then hit the streets.  We usually have breakfast at Sarabeth's, one of our favorite brunch spots, but additionally, I try to get their for their Sunday evening special--old fashioned fried chicken.--It's the best.  I think this Saturday, we might try the Creperie.  It just reopened in a new location on Petronia Street and my friend Patty, just told me it was fabulous.  The Citizen's Sunday paper had a huge story about it today.  I can't wait.  In the meantime, I will have a busy week at school, preparing my little eighth graders at HOB for the FCAT Writing test.  Enjoy this fabulous weather.
